Getting back into D2. Considering using kolbot

Hey guys, I stumbled on kolbot recently as I’m getting back into D2 and I’m interested in using it, but I have some concerns. I’ve read the FAQs, guides and some of the forums, and I see mentioned that kolbot is not undetectable and it’s possible to get banned both temporarily and permanently for using it. I work full-time so if I’m going to get back into online play, botting is the only realistic way I could acquire enough in game wealth to be able to participate in the PvP scene.

Obviously any time you get into something like this there’s a certain level of risk, so I’m wondering, how often does it actually happen that folks receive temporary or permanent bans for using this bot? Do your account and CD-Key both get banned or just one or the other? Are there ways to minimize your risk of being banned? I’ve read posts saying at least 3 minutes per game (no more than 20 games per hour) is a safe guideline with various amounts of delays between actions. Are there other strategies? Does botting for too many hours consecutively raise any flags?

Temporary bans are related to hitting server restrictions (# of games per hour, 12 hours, excessive logins etc).

Permanent bans occur if and when Blizzard chooses to do so. As far as I am aware, there have been no permanent bans due to kolbot however, that does not mean it is safe. If Blizzard chooses to, they can detect D2BS.

Normally permanent bans result in closed account + forfeited cdkeys.

Got it, thank you for the response. That sounds like a risk level I’m willing to deal with. When you say 12 hours is a server restriction, does this mean you can bot for a maximum of 12 hours per day, or a maximum of 12 consecutive hours with some length of break in between? I assume 12 hours would be cumulative between both time I actually spent playing and time the bot was playing.

It seems like the safest course of action for me (aside from not actually running the bot, of course :P) would be to set up maybe 3, 3 hour periods staggered throughout the day that the bot would run.

For the sake of being able to bot with one account, auto mule with another and use the muling logger, I would need three sets of keys, correct? Or would I only need two? I believe I remember reading that mules should use a separate key from the MF bot. Not sure if this also applies to auto mule and the logger or not?

Im also new to Kolbot (have been botting with a very very very early verson of something that worked similiar without any problems).

For the 12hours: I think its 12 consecutive hours. I recommend restarting the computer once or twice a day (if you want to let it run that long). From my experience, that helps the bot/computer to run more smoothly. Depending on your setup/router your IP might change, which helps to avoid realm down and other connection problems: e.g. my router seems to give me a “new” IP after a computer restart. (switching from .101 to .102 and back).

I recommend using at least 2keys for the bot (so the bot can switch keys. even if you run below the number of max games/hour a rd can happen, e.g. when you bot and try to trade right afterwards). One key for the mule should be enough (different from the bot ones). Im not using the mule logger so far and I dont think its useful if you are only running one mf bot.

If you run one bot and you dont make them pickup every little piece of gear that might be usefull in some situation, you will not have to (auto)mule for quite some time. Especially if you plan to only run for 3-4hours. That changes if you pick up literally almost every unique item with random stats

since June 2017 the key switching, without changing in the same time of the IP and account, doesn’t help at all.

Does it even make sense to use more than one key for an account then?

It does not make sense to use more than one key per account these days from my understanding.

Wanted to update everyone on my own personal situation: I’ve been using kolbot ever since I posted this thread back in March last year. I’ve changed my botting schedules around quite a bit, pursuing much heavier schedules than I originally intended. In the course of using kolbot, I’ve been temp banned for 21 days twice (could still login to battle.net, but got Waiting in line >1000000 when trying to create games and not allowed to join games). Both of my temp bans occurred near the end of the ladder seasons, within the last month, but cleared in time for me to start fresh in the new ladders.

I have received no permanent bans while using kolbot. The temp bans lead me to believe that Blizzard has detected me using kolbot, but currently are not interested in giving permanent bans. I suppose this could change at any time, but I feel safe for now. At this point, the game is so old, botting is the only thing that keeps me interested anyway, so if they do resume giving out permanent bans, that will likely be my queue to move on.

One of my main goals as I kept botting was to reduce R/D and FTJ to near zero. I find pursuing any schedules heavier than 4 hours on 2 hours off is likely to result in R/D and FTJ for me. Even 4/2 can be risky. I also try to keep my games above 15 minutes. Setting up delays for followers to join and leave games also seems to help a lot. And running multiple bots all in one game rather than having each bot host its own games helps keep games per hour and per 12 hours down. At most, I’d run two teams simultaneously, but even that felt like I was pushing the limits and going over 100 games per 12 hours sometimes.

Ive been running non stop for 2 weeks now, my game average 30-40 mins each. so its all dependent on circumstances.
I have heard when the servers are bogged down and over loaded they will kick on their bot scanner to clear up the server (this results in times wait times or temp bans)
